John Mayfield is the State Representative for the 20th District. This district includes parts of Independence, Sugar Creek, Buckner, Sibley and Fort Osage. John believes that we need to bring common sense back to Jefferson City.
John is a lifelong resident of the district and he currently serves as the Chairman of the Independence Human Relations Commission. He was appointed to this position by the Independence City Council in 2005 and was reappointed to a second term in 2010.
In addition to these duties, he also serves on the Fort Osage Project Graduation Committee, serving as the treasurer in 2007-2008. Project Graduation is a drug and alcohol free overnight event held after graduation that ensures the safety of the students.
He has also served on the Fort Osage Patrons Advisory Committee and the Independence School District Review Committee. John was appointed by the Independence City Council to serve on the Citizens Advisory Committee on Public Safety in 2003-2004.
The Missouri House of Representatives unanimously recognized John’s leadership, his professional accomplishments, and his deep commitment to serving his hometown on May 4, 2010.
John is a member of First Baptist Church in Buckner and the National Rifle Association. John has been proud to raise money for Komen for the Cure to fight and treat breast cancer. He has been invited to speak to various civic groups and has served as a panelist on several community forums.
John was born October 13, 1966 in Kansas City, Missouri, was raised in Independence, and is a 1985 graduate of Fort Osage High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from William Jewell College and a Master’s degree in Divinity from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He enjoys reading, sports, and fishing.
